Explanatory Essay Reflection

In writing the Explanatory Essay, I achieved a few course learning outcomes. The most important one I achieved was to explore and analyze, in writing and reading, a variety of genres and rhetorical situations. What mainly helped was the research process and the annotated bibliography. During the research process, it was important to read different kinds of media, such as a news article or a scholarly paper, and it was important to be able to translate the information found in the research phase into annotations on the annotated bibliography. This skill and course learning outcome was critical for writing the annotated bibliography correctly, and if the annotated bibliography was done incorrectly, it could mess up the entire explanatory essay. It was also important be able to write an informative, formal essay for this paper.  Another course learning outcome that was pertinent to this paper was to develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing. In order to establish and strengthen parts of the essay, it was important to be able to find quotes from different forms of media and correctly use and interpret them in terms of the paper. Writing the annotated bibliography before the paper was also very helpful, as it helped me focus on what I wanted and needed to say about my topic. The most important course learning outcome that helped me was to locate research sources in the library’s databases or archives and on the Internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias. Since my topic, ethical hacking, is a topic that is constantly evolving throughout the years, it was very important to find sources that were still relevant and sources
